Overview of the theatre industry

Presenting theatres

A presenting theatre, sometimes called a receiving house, is a theatre that does not produce its own productions, but hosts touring shows, for anything from one night up to several weeks.

Departments include administration, marketing, development, hospitality, events, front of house and technical. As these theatres receive stage-ready productions, they don’t have costume, make up, wigs or set design personnel. They will not have resident directors, creative directors and company managers.

Live Nation is the UK’s largest operator of presenting theatres, which include London’s Lyceum Theatre, Grand Opera House York, Empire Theatre, Liverpool and Bristol Hippodrome
