Youth Music Theatre - London

Youth Music Theatre UK is this country’s biggest provider of musical theatre projects for young people, and works nationally with up to 1,500 young people each year. YMT creates, commissions and develops more new musical theatre than any other UK organisation, and produces six new musicals in professional venues each summer.

We are seeking a dedicated, passionate and ambitious person to join our fundraising team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone keen to learn about fundraising within a producing theatre company. You will work as part of a small team, preparing grant applications and reporting to the fundraising manager on progress.

As well as assisting with general fundraising, you will specifically be responsible for running our Young Person’s fundraising programme, which aims to help those who are cast in our productions to raise the money they need for their course fee.

Essential Requirements
You should:

· Be interested in learning about fundraising within an arts context

· Have good communication skills in person, over the phone and in writing

· Have an excellent command of English

· Have good organisational skills

· Be flexible and willing to undertake routine tasks

· Be self-motivated and able to work under your own initiative as well as follow instruction

· Have basic Microsoft Office skills

· Be available at least three days a week for a minimum of three months

· Able to start soon

Desirable Requirements

· An arts degree or background

· Some experience of fundraising

Tasks will include assisting with the following areas of work:

1. Contacting young people who have registered for help with fundraising

2. Researching all avenues for funding, including foundations, trusts, sponsorship and donations.

3. Writing and sending grant applications to Trusts & Foundations

4. Contributing to the routine day to day administration of the company

5. Undertaking various computer applications (Microsoft Office)

6. Carry out other duties as may be directed by the Executive Producer, Operations Manager or Fundraising Manager as necessary.

  • Doing a Creative Apprenticeship
  • Volunteering. Check out vinspired
  • Work shadowing (ie following a theatre professional around for a day or two, obviously with their permission. Otherwise, it’s simply stalking)

  • Taking a casual job in a local theatre eg stage hand, usher, bar work
  • Working somewhere other than a theatre where you can learn similar skills eg a cinema, a music venue, at an outdoor event, a conference or exhibition etc

North East training with bursary

InterACT is a year-long training scheme for graduate actors, directors, designers and stage managers, run by Northumberland Theatre Company.

You are eligible to apply if you originate from Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Cleveland, Durham or Cumbria or studied for a degree in those counties.

All InterACT trainees receive a modest training bursary and some additional support for travel and relocation.
