Guidance from:
Head of Production, Head of Technical, Head of Casting, Planning Dept

Overall Purpose of Job:

  • to be the co-coordinating focal point for all Stage Management activity through out the organisation.
  • to look after the many logistical and welfare issues of the members of the Stage Management Department.
  • to support the Stage Managers in looking after the welfare and well-being of the acting companies of the Theatre, both at the venue and on tour

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • to co-ordinate the resources of the Stage Management Department across the scheduled shows at the Theatre and on Tour:
    1. allocation of individuals and teams of permanent staff
    2. recruiting additional fixed term contract staff when required
    3. support and assist the Stage Managers in tracking annualized hours
    4. support and assist the Stage Managers and Technical & Production Administrator in allocating, booking and tracking annual leave for the department
    5. support and assist the Stage Managers and Technical & Production Administrator in recording sickness, updating personnel files and generating and checking new starter, change of status and leaver forms for payroll
  • to be responsible for the general wellbeing of the members of the Stage Management department:
    1. to head and steer the Stage Managers’ management group weekly meeting and other departmental meetings
    2. support and advise the Stage Managers regarding their responsibility for their team members
    3. support all members of the stage management department in the carrying out of their individual roles
  • to work with the Head of Casting and the Stage Managers to be responsible for the general wellbeing of the acting company at the theatre
    1. working with the Head of Casting and Stage Managers to welcome actors as they join the company and deal with any queries or problems that may arise throughout their stay at the National including any poor discipline matters
    2. helping Stage Managers ensure the Company Contracts Manager is kept informed about issues such as accidents, ill health and general welfare matters
    3. helping Stage Managers ensure the acting companies are kept up to date with necessary information, and that the rest of the organization is kept up to date with the acting company
  • to take an active role in the Technical and Production Management Team of the theatre
    1. to attend regular meetings as required
    2. to take an active role in the technical duty roster each week
    3. to deputise for Stage Managers on shows in cases of holiday or sickness
    4. o stage manage occasional shows when agreed with Head of Production
    5. o provide information for the Executive as required
    6. to establish good working relationships with all directors and staff directors and to be available to provide help and guidance

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • an excellent communicator with very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and demonstrate enthusiasm in all aspects of this role
  • experienced in dealing with departmental and acting companies’ general wellbeing. eg. accidents, ill health, discipline etc
  • proven ability to deal with detailed administrative and organizational work across several projects simultaneously
  • resilient and with the ability to demonstrate and communicate enthusiasm and professionalism in all aspects of this job
  • able to carry a high level of credibility within the industry
