Small Lives, Global Ties

A multi-disciplinary online exhibition of new work by international artists - Receive a £100 commission to develop your work

Tamasha Theatre Company is looking to feature new multi-disciplinary work by artists from all around the globe in our Small Lives, Global Ties online gallery. We are looking for artists whose work explores the connection between the personal, the global and the political through an online creative engagement.

This opportunity is open to all artists.

The brief:

  • Send us a proposal for a piece of work that connects to the theme of Small Lives, Global Ties.
  • We accept work in any medium (including writing), but preference will be given to work that suits an online format well (video, audio, animation, photography, visual gallery, graphic design, web-based installations, flash and after effects animations, spoken word).  An online gallery is a unique medium and the more creative you are in engaging this form the more likely we will be to select your work.

Consider the following:

If we create and make art from where we are, can we reach a wider world?  When we create from personal experience, how does it speak to others?  How do you integrate the personal with bigger political ideas?  We are perhaps not as isolated as we think - How are we tied together and interconnected?  As technology transcends boundaries and continents, can our different cultures and beliefs actually bring us closer? From corners of the world, how do we reach out, understand, communicate, and share with others that hold different world views?

How it works:

  • Five artists will be chosen and informed. A £100 commission will be awarded to the selected artists. The final work must be complete by September 30, 2011.
  • The Small Lives Global Ties gallery will then be launched.

Tamasha means “commotion”, creating a stir. We fearlessly investigate personal stories of cultural difference and connection as rich and radical sources for theatre. Tamasha aspires to theatre that has the multiple narratives and global perspectives of Britain’s evolving culture and audiences at its heart.
