Job description

Set designer (freelance contract)

Tasks would include:

  • conceiving a visual concept for the overall look of the show, this would include incorporating a small amount of video image which is being created for use within the production
  • production of models and scale drawings for the set
  • agreeing a timetable for the production of the set
  • working to a set budget of £2,000 (fee on top)
  • building, making and painting the set
  • basic training for young people in health and safety and involving them in the realisation of the set during their school summer holidays

Experience and qualities required:

  • creative flair in the creation of a design for a new production
  • previous experience, or at least a good understanding, of designing for a proscenium arch main house theatre.
  • set construction
  • working with young people, providing guidance and encouragement
  • working as part of a creative team
  • a flexible approach to change

The successful candidate must be CRB checked or willing to be so.

This is a freelance post.

We anticipate the construction work will take approximately six – eight weeks plus the week of the get in, fit up and production run.
