Pyrotechnician

The pyrotechnician is responsible for creating effects including explosions, flashes of light, sparkling effects and puffs of smoke.

Mike Roberts, director of The World Famous creative pyrotechnics company says: “My best advice is to volunteer. We all started out that way. There is formal training available, but if you have an aptitude for the job, people will employ you and you’ll learn by doing it”.

Ellie Turner, 29, said that she found work as a pyrotechnician “slowly and kind of unintentionally”. “I initially worked in community arts of all shapes and sizes,” she said, “which led to pyro, and then to outdoor events and then eventually to my training and specialising.”
