Marketing officer (arts centre) B
The Marketing Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of all sales and marketing activity.
The Centre is a busy, multi-artformvenue offering a broad programme of live work, films, exhibitions and participatory activities, all of which require specialist support.
The Marketing Officer, working with the Marketing Assistant, will be expected to work in all areas of sales and marketing communications.
In addition, the Marketing Officer will work with non-marketing staff to promote other aspects of the organisation, including membership, room hire and the Centre’s Café Bar and restaurant.
Key Responsibilities:
- developing and implementing ongoing marketing plans for the successful promotion of the centre, its facilities and programme of work
- planning and delivering marketing and publicity campaigns for individual programmes of work including advertising and print
- ensuring effective sales and marketing results in achievement of ticket and other income targets
- maximising positive press relations and positive press coverage
- effectively managing the marketing function and resources including managing and developing the role of the Marketing Assistant
Detailed Job Description:
- creating and maintaining an ongoing marketing strategy in consultation
with the Director and other members of the team - developing and implementing detailed marketing plans for specific projects and programmes of work, including promotional campaigns for the meeting and conference facilities, café bar and restaurant
- developing and implementing specific audience development projects as required by the artistic programme
- promoting and developing membership, mailing and emailing lists and donation schemes
- to seek out and develop new opportunities for partnerships with local businesses, groups and societies
- organising direct marketing campaigns, running database lists and also sourcing external mailing lists and writing creative sales copy for such campaigns
- proactively maintaining and developing effective press and broadcast media contacts, writing/issuing press releases and acting as main point of contact for local, regional and national press
- management and co-ordination of all printed material and its distribution, including season brochures, film brochures, solus print etc
- management and co-ordination of all advertising
- ensuring efficient and effective maintenance and development of the centre’s website, including uploading information
- managing the centre’s marketing budget, ensuring maximum impact for minimum spend
- manage and develop the role of Marketing Assistant
- work with the box office staff to ensure an accurate two-way information flow, clear communication of sales and marketing activity and implement proactive measures to ensure sales targets are achieved
- in conjunction with the Director, establishing pricing policies and liasing with visiting artists and companies, both professional and amateur
- as part of the administrative team to share responsibility in the day to day running of the office including answering the telephone, taking messages and dealing with enquiries
- carry out his/her duties with due regard to the centre trust equal
opportunities policy and Health & Safety policy - any other duties as may be required as part of the Marketing Officer function
Essential:
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- at least two years experience in an arts marketing environment
- excellent verbal/ written communication skills, including copywriting (particularly press releases, direct mail and other promotional copy) and personal presentation skills
- good organisational skills and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- a good level of computer literacy (although training on specific software programs can be arranged)
- experience of media relations
- experience of proof-reading and print production
- ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team
- some management experience of paid/ voluntary staff
- excellent customer service skills
- a genuine passion for the arts
- enthusiasm and drive to improve skills and experience
Desirable:
- experience of budget management
- familiarity with and willingness to develop creative, added value marketing communications solutions such as new media
- experience of using Databox for Windows, ProVenue Databox or similar arts marketing software
- knowledge of current arts scene, particularly small-scale work
- full driving licence and own means of transport
