Job description
Outreach coordinator (theatre-based)
The Outreach Co-ordinator role is at the centre of this busy but small core team, consisting of three full-time staff: Director of Outreach, Projects Co-ordinator and Projects Administrator.
You will be required to engage with, and lead on, a range of tasks – both creative and administrative – in order to realise projects which establish a strong link between the theatre and our local community.
You will support the work of the Director of Outreach building relationships with community partners. You will also work with the Director and freelance artists in the setting up, leadership and creation of residencies, workshops and resource materials. You will be hands-on in leading such activities as appropriate, managing your teams as necessary.
You will take responsibility for developing the Outreach section currently under construction on our new website. This will require regular creation of content reflecting the spirit of our work and updates on the progress of each project.
Part of our work concentrates on young people at moments of transition.
The post-holder is required to be self-supporting administratively.

Freelance artists and workshop leaders on a project by project basis

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Residency and Workshop Development and Leading:
- setting up projects with partner groups
- devising and leading workshops and residencies
- identifying, recruiting, training and leading teams of professional artists/workshop leaders and/or volunteers from our corporate partner groups
- organising, participating in and documenting rigorous evaluation of each process
Administration:
- generation of projects agreements with partner schools/community partners
- generation of contracts for freelance artists
- sourcing and hiring workshop and rehearsal spaces
- in collaboration with the Outreach Administrator, liaising with General Manager, Head of Production, Theatre Manager and Company Manager regarding schedules and support for residencies and use of the stage or rehearsal room for outreach workshops
- organising and overseeing Front of House support for presentations in outside venues in liaison with the Theatre Manager
- attendance of weekly inter-departmental meeting
Resource Materials and Publicity Material:
- working with the Outreach Director on the creation, lay out, printing and distribution of production resource packs
- assisting in generation of copy and images for production programmes and season brochures
- creation of programmes for outreach’ presentations
- booking of photographers/film-makers to document processes
- liaising with the marketing department over use of images and secondary source material
- attendance at all outreach events including presentations and teachers’ evenings
Website:
- maintaining the public face of outreach via the website
Development:
- updating the development department on key dates and progress with outreach work
- attending development events as necessary
Financial:
- managing budgetary expenditure for specific projects and activities
Other:
- attending internal meetings as necessary
- occasional office duties as required
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
- a genuine and demonstrable passion for fostering creative ideas amongst all members of the community especially young people
- a proven track record of artistic and administrative leadership of high-quality projects in community and/or youth arts contexts
- understanding of community arts and/or educational organisations
- experience and flair for co-ordinating teams
- experience of working in a professional office environment
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- experience of working on a number of projects at once
- excellent communication skills: written and verbal
- computer literacy and skills with Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer
- good general numeracy
- experience of undertaking research
- experience or demonstrable interest in using digital media (website, SMS) to communicate with partner groups
- ability to work with a wide range of individuals from young people to funders
Desirable:
- experience of professional theatre work
- experience of using desk-top publishing software e.g. Quark or similar
- experience of working with websites (training can be provided)
- budget management experience
