Job description

Education programme coordinator

Responsible to:
the Education & Training Manager

Summary:

This post is responsible for the continuance and development of the education programme, focusing mainly on work within the formal sector. The work has young people at its heart as participants, artists and audiences with a focus on working with socially excluded communities and those at risk.

Its primary focus is to devise and deliver, in collaboration with artists, a portfolio of projects with schools and other organisations to meet identified needs in the formal and informal education sectors.

Formal and informal education:

  • to ensure the successful running of education projects with schools and
    other organisations
  • to work to agreed targets
  • to ensure that artists are CRB checked and that their records are securely kept
  • to work with the Marketing Coordinator to develop strategies to publicise the work of the department
  • to support the Regional Coordinators in the delivery of educational
    activity
  • to monitor and evaluate the work

Training and resources:

  • to establish a programme of INSET training for educationalists
  • to develop online resources for poets and teachers, in collaboration with
    the Education Programme Officer
  • to generate new business and income from commissioned resources
  • to develop training to enable artists to best deliver the education
    programme and to meet their artistic professional development needs, in
    collaboration with the Education Programme Officer

Fundraising:

  • to seek funding for specific projects, in collaboration with the Education & Training Manager and Fundraising Officer
  • to work with the team to raise the profile of the company

Personnel Management:

  • to manage project workers and artists
  • to supervise volunteers and work placements

Administration:

  • to be responsible for administration of own work
  • to produce written and financial reports
  • to manage project budgets with the support of the Education & Training
    Manager
  • to ensure legacy of knowledge by appropriate filing, record-keeping and
    reporting
  • to ensure effective communication between the education department and the rest of the team

General Duties:

  • to act as an ambassador for the company, representing the
    organisation in the best possible light
  • to participate in the process of continuous evaluation of the organisation’s effectiveness in meeting its aims and objectives
  • to represent the company in the arts education scene
  • to attend staff and board meetings as required
  • to undertake any training considered necessary
  • to comply in all areas of work with our equal opportunities
    policy
  • to carry out such other duties as may be required by the Education &
    Training Manager
  • to promote, participate in and contribute in all reasonable ways to the
    overall aims and objectives of the company

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • professional education qualification and/or at least three year’s experience of working with schools and the education sector
  • knowledge and understanding of the education system
  • significant experience of managing artists/arts projects within a school
    environment
  • knowledge and experience of monitoring and evaluating, particularly
    evaluation of artists working in schools
  • budget management experience
  • strong communication skills, written & spoken
  • ability to work in a team and on own initiative
  • excellent administrative skills
  • willingness to travel
