Assistant outreach director (building-based)

Responsible to:

Outreach Director

Principle Duties:

* lead senior youth theatre and direct one youth theatre show per year in the main house * lead and seek funding for the youth theatre, which is designed to include socially, economically and educationally disadvantaged children between 11 and 16 years. Direct show (sometimes in conjunction with senior youth theatre) * design and deliver education programme to accompany our professional programme at the theatre and on tour * manage and develop pool of skilled freelance practitioners * design, deliver and market workshops to schools and community groups * write and design education packs where necessary * create, seek funding for and deliver or direct special education and TIE projects where possible * direct a collaboration involving 120 year 5/6 pupils and staged in the main house, every two years * co-ordinate INSET days and courses for teachers and business communities. * programme, oversee and/ or deliver summer schools * supervise Youth Theatre Assistant. * assist with a large scale outdoors community theatre event held every two years * be an ambassador for the theatre in the local community and beyond * assist the Outreach Director with small-scale touring and other projects as required * assist Outreach Director and Development Director in seeking funding and sponsorship for all Outreach activities * keep Outreach diary and maintain Outreach database * engage in all opportunities to find new participants and audiences

If appropriate there may also be opportunities to write and direct other work at the theatre.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – Experience and knowledge

Essential

* experience of working in professional theatre as a director, writer/ devisor, or actor * experience of working in an educational and outreach context with a wide range of young people and community groups, including disadvantaged groups and those with special educational needs * an entrepreneurial flair capable of developing and expanding the ongoing education programme * excellent written and oral communication skills * good interpersonal skills * computer literacy

Desirable

* working knowledge of arts funding * experience of writing education packs * our rural location means that driving and owning a vehicle is a distinct advantage * current CRB check (The successful candidate will be required to undertake a CRB check). * strong sense of humour
