Development manager (theatre-based) A

Responsible for:
Friends Co-ordinator, Administration & Development Assistant (in conjunction with the Administrator)
Main purpose:
* to develop and manage the fund-raising strategy for theatre’s non-ticketed related revenue to agreed targets, such as corporate memberships, donors and covenants and sponsorship projects * to manage the Friends Co-ordinator to ensure associates and friends Club schemes meet and exceed targets * to research, prepare and execute joint or individual corporate sponsorship proposals * to support the Education Manager in securing funding from Trusts, Foundations and statutory funding bodies.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Friends Schemes:
* to ensure that the day to day administration of the friends and membership schemes is maintained by overseeing the work of the Friends CoordinatorCorporate Members:
* to develop and deliver a strategy for the recruitment of new corporate members in order to meet revenue targets * to undertake appropriate research to aid recruitment and the development of the schemes * to monitor the structure of the corporate members schemes to ensure maximum income is raised * to provide a service for corporate members that is sensitive and responsive to their requirements in order to encourage continued loyalty and renewed memberships * to liaise closely with relevant staff in the delivery of benefits to corporate members * to develop and maintain the corporate database and to undertake appropriate research to identify prospective sponsors/ corporates * to ensure corporate events are organised to fulfil sponsorship contracts * to undertake the day-to-day servicing of the scheme, renewals, ticketing and ticket initiatives, invitations to cast parties and opening nights * to attend appropriate business networking events within the borough; chamber of commerce events; town centre management * to ensure the corporate pages within the season brochures, on the website and production programmes are updated as required * to liaise with marketing and box office to agree staff ticket offers to corporate members and sponsorsDonors and Covenants
* to service and manage donations, covenants and gift aid claims and maintain the database
* to supervise the production of the existing donors and archived donors newsletters
* to undertake tax reclaims where possible in order to maximise income from this source
* to liaise with the accounts department regarding the collection of donations, tax claims and gift aid claims
* to research and devise a strategy to secure potential supporters and donors with a view to increasing the number of donors
Trusts and Foundations
* to develop strategies for securing long-term support from charitable trusts and foundations and to manage relationships with current trust funders * to write and present applications to sponsors, trusts and foundations and funding bodiesGeneral
* to participate in the development of relationships with local government bodies, industry and relevant organisations
* to work closely with Chief Executive and Marketing Manager in drawing up reports and budgets for existing and future funders and to be aware of development strategy and the marketing departments’ plans and initiatives
* to attend meetings and to report back and advise on trends and changes to fund-raising policies
* to attend and take an active role in regional development for and on behalf of the theatre
* to attend business breakfasts, evening receptions and other out of hours duties as and when required
* to investigate other means of fundraising through telesales
* to investigate use of external consultants for specific projects where appropriate
* to attend training courses as required in order to further self-development
* to keep abreast of all current fund-raising issues
* to adhere to all health and safety procedures to minimise the risk of injury and accidents
* to complete any other delegated duties that assist the theatre in achieving its business objectives
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
* a minimum of two years experience in a development function * experience of building relationships with the corporate sector * ability to identify marketing synergies between the theatre and business sectors * a self-motivator with the ability to be a team player * strong negotiation and sales skills to produce results * a commitment to meeting budget targets and maximising opportunities * good IT skills and aptitude * good numeracy, literacy and administration skills * excellent presentation skills with the ability to public speak * a confident, welcoming personality with excellent networking and social skills * a commitment to excellent customer care at all times * an enthusiasm for live theatre * an ability to work flexible hours including some eveningsDesirable
* direct arts fund-raising experience * an active interest in current trends and thoughts within arts funding * desk-top publishing expertise * experience of event management * an interest in education, outreach and audience development * experience of managing a budget * knowledge of charitable trusts and foundations
