Hire assistant/stock keeper

Responsible To:
Hire Department Manager

Background

The Hire Department holds a wide range of costumes, props and furniture from past productions. It is used extensively as a resource for recycling into new productions and by other professional and amateur productions – the organisation and maintenance of all stock is key to the success of this area.

Purpose of Job:

  • to assist with the hiring procedures of receiving and booking out of costumes
  • to assist with the daily running of a busy and developing department

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • to assist in the organisation and maintenance of all stock areas in the Costume Hire Department
  • to keep stock in good order, implementing and following stock control systems
  • to launder and carry out basic maintenance repairs to stock
  • to assist in entering the relevant data to produce and maintain an up-to-date stock inventory and to implement the bar-coding of all stock
  • to maintain all stock rooms and cupboards in a clean and tidy condition and ensure that security, safety and good housekeeping procedures are carried out
  • to assist with telephone enquiries and office duties
  • to assist both clients and theatre designers and supervisors with their costume requirements
  • to assist fancy dress clients when required
  • to provide assistance to the general running of the props store as required
  • to provide assistance to the transport department e.g. taking bookings for drivers
  • to participate in marketing and promotional projects and events as required
  • to maintain good housekeeping and safety standards at all times
  • to undertake any other duties which may reasonably be required
  • to undertake training deemed necessary by your manager
  • to support our communication objectives by sharing information with your manager, team and colleagues as appropriate, whilst respecting confidentiality, so that you and your colleagues have all the information you need to perform your duties effectively
  • to comply with our equal opportunities and Health & Safety policies at all times

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The postholder must have the following:

  • excellent communication skills with the ability to prioritise a large number of competing tasks
  • experience of the full range of administrative skills including computer literacy in Word, Excel, MS Office and other programmes including databases
  • good general knowledge of costume history
  • careful sewing and laundry skills.
  • ability to work under own initiative and as a team member
