Careers in theatre

Company director

The ITC, an industry body that represents over 600 members, says:

In most theatre organisations, because the company is a registered charity, company directors are voluntary and therefore do not receive a salary or earn money from their involvement. The board of directors or management of the organisation is the most senior level of management.

Members of the board are responsible for the overall strategy and operation of the organisation, and are bound by charity law and other laws and requirements. They appoint the artistic director and administrative director, and in some cases the financial director.
