Deputy technical manager/ chief electrician
Responsible to:

Deputy Chief Electrician/ Assistant Electrician/ Casual Crew/ Stage Manager (when deputising)/ Deputy Stage Manager (when deputising)
Main purposes:
- responsibility for the stage lighting and audio services of all stage performances, concerts and related activities within agreed schedules and budgets
- to assist the Technical Manager in the management and development the technical services for all stage performances, concerts and related activities
- to deputise for the Technical Manager in their absence as necessary
Key Responsibilities:
- in consultation with the Technical Manager and Stage Manager to ensure the adequate scheduling of stage electricians and sound engineers to service the stage lighting and audio operational needs in line with agreed parameters
- to be responsible for the stage lighting and its electrical operations, for the safe and efficient get-in, fit-up and get-out of all productions
- to design lighting and sound, when necessary or appropriate, for community groups, solo performances and others where the theatre is obliged to provide such facilities to the artist
- to acts as Board Operator during performances where applicable
- to ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and PAT testing of all electrical equipment located in the theatre
- in conjunction with the Stage Manager, responsibility for the safe and efficient use of the storage areas and ensuring that these are kept in good order
- to maintain stock of electrical consumables and, in conjunction with the Technical Manager, to be responsible for the ordering of materials and services required in accordance with the theatre’s approved procedures
- to work closely with visiting companies and to ensure the smooth changeover between productions, ensuring that this always complies with agreed contractual terms
- responsibility for the day to day upkeep and maintenance of FOH and backstage lighting ensuring that these are kept in good order and repair and to ensure that lamping and general maintenance of auditorium lighting in the theatre and studio is carried out within agreed parameters
- to attend regular departmental and crew meetings to ensure all arrangements and costings are clearly understood and why they are being planned/proposed; to also receive information about the theatre’s news, procedures and goals
- to assist the Stage Manager as and when required through multi-skilling
- to ensure that all staff/ crew are fully up to date with electrical procedures and working practices though a training programme; to work closely with the Technical Manager in ensuring training is maintained and periodically reviewed
- to recruit, train, appraise and manage the teams performance to ensure business and departmental objectives are achieved in consultation with the Technical Manager
- to assist the Technical Manager in initiating production schedules and crew costings for any productions that may originate at the theatre
- to act on behalf of the Technical Manager in their absence as necessary
- to attend training courses as required in order to further self-development
- to adhere to all Health & Safety procedures to minimise the risk of injury and accidents
- to complete any other delegated task that may assist the smooth running of the department or theatre as a whole
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:
- extensive production lighting experience
- basic knowledge of sound systems
- aqualified electrician with previous building maintenance experience
- previous line management responsibility
- excellent leadership qualities with the ability to be a team player
- a commitment to meeting budget targets
- a commitment to customer care issues and a welcoming personality
- knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
- attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines and to see projects through to conclusion
- good IT skills and aptitude
- good communication skills with the ability to motivate others and commitment to staff development
- confident and calm under pressure
- an ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
Desirable:
- an enthusiasm for live theatre
- knowledge of fly systems
- experience of training staff
- first aid trained
- full clean driving licence
