Administrative director (touring theatre company) B

The Administrative Director is a key role for the company. As one of two senior managers, s/he will work closely with the Artistic Director to ensure the successful realisation of an exciting and ambitious programme of work. Where the Artistic Director is primarily responsible for devising and overseeing the development of the artistic programme, the Administrative Director is primarily responsible for the day-to-day running of the company and financial management. S/he will also work collaboratively with the Artistic Director to realise the company’s aims as set out in its business plan, and to shape the future of the company.

Main purpose of contract:

* to oversee the planning and delivery of our two year project, State of the Nation, line managing key personnel where appropriate * to plan and set annual and project budgets in collaboration with the Artistic Director, ensuring the company operates within its projected resources through sound budgetary control * to work collaboratively with the Artistic Director in recruiting and appointing freelance artistic, technical and administrative personnel, taking responsibility for drawing up and negotiating contracts * to be responsible for conducting appraisals and implementing professional development plans * to report regularly to the Board of Directors on the company’s development and management, monitoring its consistency with the artistic vision and business plan * to report regularly to the Board of Directors producing quarterly financial reports and liaising directly with the company’s accountant * to contribute to the preparation of fundraising bids and evaluative reports, and to take the lead on preparing monitoring reports * to work collaboratively with the Artistic Director in order to raise the profile of the company, maintain key relationships and increase its audience base in line with the artistic vision * to represent the company at relevant conferences, forums and meetings where possible

General:

* to work with the Artistic Director in order to maintain and develop our reputation as a leading exponent in the field of theatre for social change * maintain a commitment to equal opportunities in all aspects of the work * be aware of current legislation relating to work with young people and vulnerable adults to ensure all activities follow available guidelines * ensure all activities comply with Health and Safety requirements * undertake other duties relating to the project as and when required by the Artistic Director and Board of Directors

Qualifications

* educated to a degree level (or comparable education/experience)

Experience

* at least two years experience of arts administration * experience of managing budgets * experience of line managing permanent staff

Essential Skills and Abilities:

* financial management skills including setting and monitoring budgets, with experience of using electronic accounting packages * project management and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage conflicting demands and issues * administrative and office management skills, ideally including working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook * highly motivated, self starter proactive in developing own ideas and delivering high quality work * ability to operate effectively as part of a small team * excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of public agencies, community agencies and individuals * a commitment to theatre for social change * willingness to work outside office hours and from a number of locations if required

* ability to develop marketing strategies * ability to research and write reports * demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development as well as development of other team members
