Unheard Voices

Deadline 1 December 2007

The Royal Court Theatre is looking for scripts for Unheard Voices – a playwriting competition which offers young Muslim writers a chance to see their work performed on the theatre’s famous main stage in London.

Writers from the Muslim community, aged 16-25, who think they’ve got what it takes, should send in a short scene to the theatre. The winning writers will be invited to join a weekly playwriting course at the Royal Court, starting in January 2008, where they will hone their writing skills with the help of expert tutors and professional playwrights, to complete a brand new play.

The winning play will be presented as a script-in-hand performance at the Royal Court Theatre, with a professional director and actors.

No previous playwriting experience is necessary, and there will be separate groups for men and women.

The Royal Court Theatre is a leading force in world theatre, committed to producing new plays that tell stories to reflect experiences from every corner of society.

Partners include:
Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre
muslimyouth.net
Moroccan Community Welfare Group
