Young People's Theatre Group for 14s - 18s
September 08 - March 09
The Royal Exchange Theatre runs a number of educational activities for young people, and the group for 14 – 18 year olds is called the Young People’s Theatre Group (YPTG).
This group explores all aspects of the creative process of making theatre from acting to stage management. The project culminates in a short performance piece in the Royal Exchange’s Studio Theatre that the participants themselves create, perform, design and provide backstage and technical support for.
The group runs annually from September to March, with sessions on Tuesday evenings from 5.30 – 7.30pm and on occasional Saturdays. All sessions take place at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
The group is FREE to participants, although we do ask that a small contribution is made towards ticket costs for theatre visits.
Application rates are high for the 30 places which are currently available per year. These places are allocated based on the completion of an application form and attendance at a taster workshop – there are no auditions or interviews. We look for enthusiastic individuals who are reliable and committed to working within a team of other young people, and we aim to build a diverse group made up of individuals who are interested in the many different aspects of the theatrical process.
To get more of an idea about the work of the Young People's Theatre Group, why not come and see the outcome presentation by the 2007/08 group? THE GOLDEN MILE will be presented in The Studio on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 April 2008, at 7.30pm each evening plus a 4pm Saturday matinee. Tickets are available priced £9.50 (£6.50 concessions; £4.00 under 13s) from the Royal Exchange Box Office on 0161 833 9833.

As the new kid on the block, we’re just finding our feet. Get Into Theatre would love to receive feedback about what we’re doing and how we could do it better.
