Theatre studies/ practice (foundation)
It’s highly likely that this course is going to vary in content from place to place, maybe more than any of the others listed on this page. Why? Well theatre studies and theatre practice are subjects that can cover such a wide range of topics and areas that it would be well worth your while checking the syllabus carefully.
In short, most of these courses will cover things like the history of theatre, as well as touching on subjects like theories of drama, plus context, practice and style. It might be that it includes some performance or production elements, or it might be purely theoretical.
In that way, this particular course might be a bit like studying politics is to being an MP–it could help you understand the what and how and why of government and policy, but it’s highly unlikely to land you with a job as an elected member of parliament. In the same way, theatre studies might give you a great grounding in the subject and the industry, but it’s not going to deliver you that dream job as chief exec on a silver platter either…
