Props-making (degree)

As a props-making student, you will learn a broad range of skills that will enable you to take on the most unlikely and outrageous of briefs, from severed body-parts to intricate period furniture!

Areas of skill include: sculpting, mould making and casting, fibreglass work, woodwork, upholstery, welding and metalwork.

We have only identified one dedicated degree course in props–at Central School of Speech and Drama–but there are a handful of others that offer prop-making as part of their curriculum, including special effects at University of Hertfordshire, scenic arts at Rose Bruford College and technical theatre studies at East 15, technical effects for performance at University of the Arts London, modelmaking at University College for the Creative Arts, entertainment design crafts at Cleveland College of Art and Design and technical theatre at Barking College.
