Costume design (foundation)
On a theatrical costume foundation degree you will study subjects including garment-making, costume-cutting and draping, sewing, dyeing, printing, costume-design, millinery (hat-making), jewellery and corsetry. Some courses include more history and theory of costume design that others. All will include both design and construction skills.
If you are interested in studying costume, also look at theatre design and technical theatre courses. Lots of these will include a costume element and they will allow you to explore other aspects of theatre design (props, set, lighting design etc) whilst still specialising in costume in your second year.
Bursaries
The Costume Society offers awards and bursaries each year.
