Community theatre (foundation)

Community theatre (also called theatre in education or community arts) is the application of drama to social issues. A degree in this subject will start to prepare you to work in the community, using drama as a force for change. You will learn skills including planning workshops with young people and adults. You will explore all aspects of creating drama in the community from directing productions to budgeting, fundraising and marketing.

Community theatre practitioners work in many settings and with many groups including schools, youth theatres, healthcare settings, prisons, with learning disabled people and with older people.

It is certainly not essential to study community theatre if you want to work in it. Have a look at our case studies to see what qualifications they have.
