Arts journalism (degree)

There currently aren’t any journalism courses in the UK that are specific to arts journalism. But if this is what you want to do, you will need the same basic training as any other type of journalist and the NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) is the best place to start when looking for a course.

The postgraduate theatre studies degree at the Central School of Speech and Drama includes theatre journalism, alongside arts management and theatre history. Professional people and organisations involved in this course have included Lyn Gardner, The Guardian, BBC Newsnight Review and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, among many others.

Shape has previously run arts journalism training for deaf and disabled people and may do again in the future.
