Originally from Stoke-On-Trent, now live in Leicester

What do you do?
Artist/administrator, Speakeasy Theatre Company

What was your very first role in theatre?
Freelance actor/ workshop leader for two years

Have you got qualifications?
A drama degree and a BTEC national diploma in performing arts

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I initially wanted to be a theatre or TV actor, but over the years I have moved away from the TV desire–I love performing in front of a live audience.

What do you do all day?
A typical day could involve any of the following: planning or putting on a workshop or project, evaluating a project, designing publicity, making and editing a DVD or multimedia design.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The variety. One day I could be pretending to be a Tudor director, and the next I could be delivering a substance abuse workshop to secondary school children.

And the worst?
Working with at-risk children can be the worst thing, but I feel that this can also be the most rewarding area of the job, particularly for professional development.

What’s your dream job in theatre?
I love the job I’m doing now! All through my education I have explored various areas of theatre work, from design to performance, and I feel a job like this allows me to try out new things and explore those skills.

Got any wise words for someone who wants to be where you are now?
Be prepared to work for free at first. If you can volunteer on a project not only will you gain experience but you will give yourself the opportunity to show off your talents. You can also never be too enthusiastic, punctual or willing to go the extra mile to make sure a project works.
